Everyone at the hostel tries to keep a good attitude about the way they treat their fellow hostellers.
Everyone expects to be treated the way they treat other people. For the best experience stay at a hostel
Because you can meet different people from all over, and learn about different cultures.
Misconception: Most foreigners hate Americans.
We consider the fact that this is not true. This is a false accusation because people are people; they are mostly against the American
governments' foreign policies. It all depends on you, how you conduct your-self while abroad, whether or not you will be well liked or despised.
Misconception: They are the filthy all the time.
We consider the fact that if your view of clean is a sanitized bathroom, you're right.
The average hostel is clean. With so many people going in and out.
It is the responsibility of the staff to keep things in order, and they usually do.
Something is depends on you. If everyone works together it is easier for the staff to keep
things tidy. Clean up after yourself, if you offer to do some chores (some hostels offer
free stay or Lower rates.) Ask a manager for details.
Misconception: I would be looked at funny eating alone at the hostel.
We consider the fact that could be a very usual scene.
This is a very silly question to think of let alone ask, as it will not matter one bit to the other guests in
the hostel whether or not you are eating, or alone, or if you do so with a group of friends.
Misconception: The utensils are dirty at all times.
We consider the fact that if any utensils look unclean than wash it.
Number one if you want a good meal, cook it yourself. Since this is not your mom's house fend for yourself.
After you are finished with your spectacular meal, clean up.
Misconception: Hostels are full of crime.
We consider the fact that stereotypes have little truth, but it's been made out to be bigger than it is.
If there is a certain thing that has happened somewhere else, it doesn't mean that. Everywhere you go it's
going to be the same outcome. You are more likely to get robbed. If you walk around looking like you
have money, than leaving your things out at the hostel. If you use a little common sense you should not
worry. Don't avoid hostelling because of what you hear about peoples wrong doings, just be careful about
your judgment (remember, most people Are just like you, they are going to have a wonderful time
with the exception of a few jerks.)
Misconception: Women are in danger staying at a hostel alone.
We consider the fact that things have changed from how it used to be. No more just slaving in the kitchen.
Lots of woman travel by themselves and they are just fine. If a woman feels that she wants to travel alone
then let her.
If you use your brain and commonsense you should not have any problem.
Misconception: A shuttle Bus will take me to a hostel.
We consider the fact that some hostels offer the shuttle bus but not every hostel.
The answer to this question is fairly easy. If you are
ever unsure about what kind of transportation you will need to take and when and where to get off, then feel free to
ask, as I am sure they would be more than willing to help you on your way.
Misconception: It's Hard to communicate.
We consider the fact that smiling and laughing are great gestures to break the ice. You should make an effort
to make friends.
Of course, you should try and learn a couple of words. If not smile and somehow try and get your point across.
Misconception: Owners spy on the guests.
We consider the fact that this is possible from anyone.
You could be the owner of the Hilton hotel and do that.
There is No reason to accuse someone of things of that nature unless you have proof. Most staff or owners are travelers as
well and are looking out for your best interest.
Misconception: If you are old, no one pays you any mind.
We consider the fact that if someone is not going to speak to you because of you age than it's a waste of time
to talk to them anyway.
Everyone seems to respect each other. Most of the interaction comes from the people talking with each other regardless of age.
Most people feel comfortable because the environment is friendly so that problem
really doesn't exist
Misconception: Hostel slippers have to be worn.
We consider the fact that your own foot wear is up to you.
Wearing special hostel shoes is a ridiculous statement. You can wear what ever you want to. If you don't want
to wear any shoes at all that's ok. All style of shoes is welcome at the hostel.
Misconception: Hostel beds contain bugs and lice.
We consider the fact that it's not normal, but some places if not kept up the way they should have
a problem like that.
This is not a problem you should worry about because it is not likely. If it is than switch hostels or find
another bed to sleep in.
Misconception: My things will be missing if I leave them out.
We consider the fact that you can usually tell if it is safe to leave your things around. The first initial
stay at a hostel you can be worried about your things, but once you find out about the people staying you tend
to start feel more comfortable. Stealing usually isn't a problem. Like anywhere else there is always a chance
of it happening. To be on the safe side, purchase a lock for your bags.
Misconception: The staff will clean up any mess you leave.
The staff is not their to clean up after slobs. You should act like a responsible adult and clean your own mess.
That means washing your own dishes, keeping clothes off the floor, and making your bed sometimes.
Misconception: Be as rude as you want because it doesn't matter.
We consider the fact that being quiet isn't important, but consideration is. They try keeping the peace in hostels.
Sometimes it is okay to party, just not all the time. Just be considerate, if it gets late, as some people want
their beauty sleep
Misconception: The hostel owners love when everyone shares their drinks and gets really drunk.
We consider the fact that every hostel has different rules on drinking.
If you want to drink with some new friends, than you should make sure you are at a hostel that doesn't mind
drinking and carrying on all night. Cracking a bottle with dinner is a nice way to socialize. If you want to
really party, than go on the town for an evening.
Misconception: Hostels are the place to sell or buy drugs
We consider the fact that some people may think that crack houses and hostels are the same thing.
Every place has its share of drug users and dealers. We try to keep those issues out of the hostel. If you are
expecting to come to a hostel just to find drugs, it will be a little harder than you think.
Misconception: The refrigerator is filled with free snacks.
We consider the fact that if you don't know read the labels first.
There is no such thing as free food. Most people leave their name on their bag, so you can distinguish whose food
is. If you want the free stuff it will be located at the section that say's free food.
Misconception: If you do chores you can stay for free.
We consider the fact that you should find out first before assuming this.
There are hostels that offer reduced rates if you do chores. If you plan to be there a while, some offer free
rooms for work.
Misconception: You can give your laundry to the staff and they will do it free of charge.
We consider the fact that you need to be sure about that.
Some hostels offer laundry service. Some even have machines you can use. Be sure to ask first.
Misconception: All backpackers don't take showers, and wear gross clothes.
We consider the fact that traveling for a fashion show doesn't make sense. But not taking a shower would not
put you on the cool list.
Misconception: Most backpackers are beer drinkers, and pot heads.
We consider the fact that there are some types that are that way, but that's not everyone.
There are plenty of travelers that do not consider them to be that way. They are hardworking individuals like
the rest of us. Backpackers usually bring a part of home with them. They are just as normal as we are.
Misconception: Don't talk to anyone unless introduced by the manager.
We consider the fact that this is not a tea party.
You can talk to whom ever you please at any time. Introduce yourself if you want to make some new friends.
Offer to share some wine or food to break the ice.
Misconception: You must turn off the lights when changing.
We consider the fact that if you are shy you can have the lights out; otherwise it is up to you.
Misconception: Nudity is normal at hostels.
We consider the fact that there is nothing wrong with being naked.
Nudity isn't the norm, sometimes you will find people changing so don't stare or gawk (we are adults)!
Misconception: If someone snores they can get kicked out.
We consider the fact that snoring can not be stopped, so try and control it.
There is no way you can get kicked out for it!
Misconception: You have no money if you stay here.
We consider the fact that being here is a silly thing to feel a need to compensate for.
Just because you stay in a hostel doesn't mean you don't have money. It means you are aware that
your money is for more than just a room with a bed. Saving your money is a way to
enjoy travel; it opens up more doors for you to enter. So being frugal is the way to go. Plus you
can travel longer period of time.
Misconception: I am alone, but I can speak English, then I can talk to people around me.
We consider the fact that people either speak English well or not. It should't be a big issue.
Well, if most of the people who at staying at your hostel can speak English, You can as well, and then you might
as well as use that to your advantage if you are feeling alone and/or bored. This can alleviate boredom most of
the time.
Misconception: When something unplanned happens, it will mess up whole my schedule.
We consider the fact that it could happen, but you could have more unexpected experiences.
Well, then you must think on your feet, as this will help you out a great deal, especially when
something that is completely unplanned has happen to you while traveling.
Misconception: It is imperative that you be under the age of 30 to stay at the hostel.
We consider the fact that the young travelers often choose hostels, but
Restricts travelers of other ages from staying there. In reality, everyone is welcome.
Anywhere from the old to young children, even married couples and families are welcome. (just make sure that you check with the hostel you have booked)
Misconception: How do I get better, if I become sick..
We consider the fact that this is your responsibility.
Well, then you can go to the nearest drug store/pharmacy and purchase some over the counter
medication, best suited for the particular type of illness.
Misconception: There is an age limit for hostellers.
We consider the fact that it doesn't have any limitations.
This is another one of those questions that should not be asked, if you are physically capable
of moving about with relative ease, then that means you should go out and travel, explore a little more. If not
then you should reconsider. No one should allow their age to become a factor, when deciding
on if one should travel or not.
Misconception: You have to listen to other people's weird noises at night.
We consider the fact that there's some truth to this statement.
Sooner or later you will end up in a room where there is a snorer or a farter, It happens.
One of your bunk mates comes back after a night of drinking and makes noise.
For example, bringing girls back, talking on the phone, or throwing up until the wee hours of the morning.
Misconception: The value of my money is cheap compare to USD dollars.
We consider the fact that this might be correct. There must be other factors involving your currency, and its value.
You can learn the value of the currency in to which you will be changing your usual one by getting in contact
a local bank nearest you, or by making a few transactions, after a few of them, you should not have any sort
problems with the value of your money.
