Tipping Awareness in USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Not tipping is simply rude. A good rule someone who does a good job is simply to divide five into your check and give 20 percent far
too many people give ten percent because the math is easier, but 20 percent is just as easy - too many people are just cheap!
Things which should not impact you¡¯re tipping:
Not getting your steak cooked properly.
The restaurant being out of your favorite dish.
Having a conflict with another diner (loud children, people smoking in a non-smoking section) Having a bad day.
Having difficulty with your date. Anything else beyond the human control of your waiter or waitress.
These people rely on your handouts to make a living. They should never be punished monetarily for something they can't control.
Dock their tip but never, ever let it fall below ten percent. In bars, 10% to 15% is considered average, but you should also
take into consideration the complexity of your drink orders. In other words, opening a few bottles of beer doesn't necessarily warrant
the same tip as making six rounds of frozen daiquiris.
Waiters or waitresses at restaurants 15% to 20% of the bill.
It's also important to note that restaurant servers pay taxes on 8% to 10% of their total receipts, not the actual amount of tips they earn.
If you don't tip them, they are actually losing money because they're paying taxes based on the amount of your meal. The management works
under the assumption that most people tip 15% to 20%. This makes it easier at tax time, but it's bad for the waiters if they have a lot of
customers who don't tip. Valets $1 to $2 per car when you pick the car up. Taxi drivers: 15% of total bill, no less than 25 cents. Hairdressers: 15%. Pizza delivery person: $1-2 for short distance, $2-3 for longer distance.
Mexico
In Mexico tipping is expected for almost any service - compensate people who are paid very little for their work and they except to be tipped.
Taxis, restaurants, food delivery people all should be tipped. No tip for bad service is understood. The general rules apply.
