Gambling in Las Vegas
Here are just a few choice words about gambling in "Vegas" 9 out of 10 people who go are there to gamble. To go to Las Vegas and not gamble is considered perverse.
The house always has the advantage, some; people wonder about this but how could they run a business if the didn't. Also 99% of all the money gambled in Las Vegas is bet by .01% of the people who go there, now having heard that you know what they mean by "A Whale."
The House always has the "EDGE" as far as the numbers are concerned, but you can increase your odds by just a couple of things, the longer you play the better chance you have of breaking even or coming out ahead. The average person coming to Las Vegas has a bank roll of 500$, for gambling. The more you break your money the longer you play, thus the better your chances are.
Making one large bet can break your bank roll or increase it depending on the odds of the game. The thrill of putting all your money down at one time is like being on the fastest roller coaster in the world or jumping out of a plane. In Las Vegas the parachute doesn't always open though.
Now we come to the "Luck" part of Las Vegas since there is now way of predicting it is either "Hit or Miss." Luck can always change the odds in you favor. The one thing that Las Vegas Casino's always know is that luck will usually run out before the person realizes it has. The phrase "Just one More" has become so common that when the casino's here this they know they have you and every penny your willing to risk.
Safe betting in casinos seems a little dumb to say, but with Blackjack, craps, video poker, and baccarat you lower the houses "Edge" and increase yours. The two types of baccarat give the house just a 1% advantage. The basic line bets at craps if backed up with full odds, can be as low as .5%. Blackjack and video poker offer slightly increasing odds the longer you play. The casinos have no problem doing this because they realize that most of the players are going to make "sucker bets." the house has a 5% to 35% advantage on a regular basis. Most people don't take the time to really look at the odds of each game. Gambling does take skill, study, and practice despite what anyone may say.
Comps and Coupons
Las Vegas gives back, if you take the time to find out how. Here are a couple of things to look into while there. "Comps" or "freebies" vary from free parking, meals, drinks, line passes (these allow you just to walk in) as well as free rooms, And free airfare to and from any where in the world.
To become eligible for comps just ask the dealer to call the "pit boss" over and asked to be "rated." The information then goes to the marketing department computer. Based on your "comp equivalency" you will be eligible to receive "perks" each casino has a different rating system so if you plan on taking more then one trip to Las Vegas this is the way to get a little back.
Coupons offer the best deals as far as the traveler is concerned. These are normally found at the front of your hotel just ask.
Most "funbooks" contain coupons that return 7 to 5, 3 to 2, and even 2 to 1 odds on even money wagers. Just think about betting 1$ then a coupon that represent another 1$ if you win you end up walking out with 3$ not a bad idea for the budget traveler. You may want to consider going on a "coupon run" with friends just collect as many as you can and play the odds. You may just leave a winner. (I mean at the gambling thing)
