General Information about city of Las Vegas "SIN CITY"
The words Las Vegas mean "The Meadows." There was little development of the area until 1902 when the area was sold to the local railroad companies, then eventually taken over by Union Pacific Railroad. On May 15, 1905 what is referred to as the downtown area was split in to 1200 lots and sold in a single day. May 15 is now considered Las Vegas's Birthday.
In 1931, Nevada legalizes gambling; the first real Casino was the Sahara Hotel and was constructed in 1941 by developers from Los Angeles. Then in 1946 "Bugsy Siegel" arrives, and the Las Vegas world would never be the same. With organized crime now in Las Vegas the city took on an even more dangerous and exciting mystique.
Flash forward a couple of movies later Disney and MGM move in and push what is the less legal side out of Las Vegas. The odds are always in the houses favor, so for your next trip think before you "PLAY." There are also plenty of things to do in "Vegas" beside spend every waking hour in the casinos. Museum's, comedy clubs, roller coasters, clubs, Vegas style show's from singers, dancers, Adult Cabarets, and famous Musicians all play Vegas at one time or another. There are more then a few guides about what's going on.
