AGIA PELAGIA THE FISHING VILLAGE IN THE CENTRE OF CRETE 2/7/2013 5:29:32 PM
Agia Pelagia situated on the north coast of Crete, 20 kilometres
west of Heraklion and has a transfer time of twenty five
minutes. It is built like an amphitheatre around the deep bay,
surrounded by hills which provide protection from winds. Its
sandy beach is long and narrow and there are a number of shingle
coves. AgiaPelagia's natural beauty and the modern facilities
that are available to its visitors make it a very popular resort.
The most popular time to visit Agia Pelagia is in the summer.
The season extends from April to October when the temperature
range is from twenty to thirty degrees. Nightlife in Agia
Pelagia is fairly peaceful. It is not the place to
go if you are a late night party animal. There are a good number
of bars, pubs restaurants and tavernas where you
can spend a pleasant evening overlooking the bay. Because Agia
Pelagia has developed along the contours of
the hills surrounding the bay, every hotel and restaurant has
magnificent sea views.
An Aghia Pelagia holiday will see you in a beautiful seaside
fishing village, at the centre of a vast, amphitheatre-esque
bay, located 23km northwest of Heraklion.
The resort takes its name from a church in the Monastery of the
Sebbathians, the ruins of which can be found just 1 km outside
the village.
The village itself offers many bars, cafes, shops, boutiques and
tavernas, serving traditional and also international dishes.
Surrounded by many picturesque mountains and hills, Aghia
Pelagia is a great place to explore beyond the town centre.
Beachwise, there are about nine smaller, more secretive beaches
in addition to the central bay, easily accessible by foot for
those who crave a slice of adventure with their search for the
perfect sunbathing spot.
